Strawberry pickers working for Mr. Harris at Whimple Farm, Gunnislake. c.1920 From the early 1900s the parish was known for its fruit and flowers which were sent to Covent Garden and as far as Manchester. Market gardening went into sharp decline after the closure of the branch line to freight traffic in 1965.
